Our Story

A Generational Legacy
Blohm Jeweler’s story begins with founder Walter N. Blohm, a professional jeweler in Muscoda, WI, circa 1921. After two decades in the trade, Walter headed west and settled in Elko, NV, in 1941; his son Ted joined the family business in 1947, later purchasing the store in 1963 and leading it through 2018.
Blohm Jeweler’s continued family stewardship remains evident today, with Lina Blohm actively running it for the community. Deborah, Lina’s daughter, has followed in the family footsets as a Graduate Gemologist, Jewelry Designer, and Appraiser. The business has been recognized locally, voted Best Jewelry Store in Elko for 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026.
Education and Credentials of Ted and Lina
Ted discovered a passion for gemology early in his career, completing watchmaker training at Bradley Tech in Illinois and earning his gemology degree from the Gemological Institute of America in 1954. He has held the title of Certified Gemologist of the American Gem Society for the past 70 years, a testament to his long-standing expertise. Lina, Ted’s wife, holds the designation of Registered Jeweler with the AGS and is currently pursuing her Graduate Gemology degree.

Education, Ethics, and Customer Trust
Since affiliating with the American Gem Society in 1952, Ted has credited the AGS with shaping both his trade knowledge and his role in the community. As he has stated, “Belonging to AGS has helped to give me guidelines that I perhaps would not have been aware of.” Those guidelines underpin a philosophy that places education, ethical conduct, and reliable service at the center of the business.
In discussing what has driven their longevity, Ted observed, “I think we are successful because we have a desire to please the customer. We offer good quality products, good quality service and fair prices. Our customers have confidence in our honesty and integrity, and that is what matters the most!”
Generations of Talent and Tenderness
Ted and Lina’s daughter, Deborah, is a Graduate Gemologist and Jewelry Designer based in Los Angeles, CA, Nicole, an attorney in Los Angeles, CA, and Kristina, a doctor in Scottsdale, AZ.
The grandchildren of Lina Blohm—Cameron, Harrison, Sofia, Aspen, and Andrew—bring both pride and everyday joy. Cameron completed his degree at USC, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2021, residing in NYC and Harrison graduating from California Polytechnic University’s Engineering Program has led to hands-on work, including a project for NASA, landing at Apple in Silicon Valley, CA.
Sofia expresses her talents through Sports Med and vocal/piano lessons, where her intelligence and voice are truly appreciated. Aspen’s compassion is shown through her love of animals, and Andrew’s energy is channeled into sports and outdoor pursuits. Lina counts these moments among her greatest blessings.
